Colchester Farm Long Range Planning

Vision Statement: To create and sustain on Colchester Farm a place of beauty where invested participants can balance productive, human and environmental priorities. (Established March 2003)

Mission:

  • To develop an economically sustainable organic Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Project. Accomplished in 2007
  • To research and expand non-GMO grain production building a sustainable working farm.
  • To provide agricultural and environmental education to the public building connections with the local community. Accomplished in 2007
  • To place the entire farm in a conservation easement protecting it from development forever.(Established March 28, 2004) Accomplished in 2007

    Five Year Goals 2004-2009

  • To expand CSA to between 200 and 300 subscription participants a year while maintaining quality standards.
  • To maintain crop profitability while expanding non-GMO grain production, switching from feed grains to grains for human consumption.
  • To design and legally institute an organizational structure to expand working partnerships with other organizations. Accomplished in 2007
  • To improve farm infrastructure and access road (bring it up to Kent County specifications). (Established March 2004)

    CSA Goals 2008

  • To deliver a variety of clean, tasty, and fresh vegetables to our members.
  • To maintain the standards we achieved in 2007.
  • To enhance the educational aspects of the internship program.
  • To balance income and expenses, retain enough earnings to reinvest in CSA operational expenses.
